1962年3月に横浜・山下公園に建った日米ガールスカウト友好の像は、当時日米のガールスカウトが募金しあい、当時の現役スカウトがモデルとなり作られました。2013年に日米お二人のご健在が確認されたことをきっかけに、ガールスカウトリーダー有志で2014年に1年間の期間限定活動として「ＧＳハンドシェイクプロジェクト2014」を立ち上げ、米国側モデルのリビー・ワトソンさんの2014年11月に半世紀ぶりの来日と、日本側モデルの田中紘子さんとの銅像前で再会の握手の実現を果たしました。このプロジェクト運営チームはリビーさんの来日サポート、各種歓迎イベントの立案・運営を担当しました。

In March 1962, the US-Japan GS Friendship Statue was built at Yamashita Park, Yokohama, Japan by donation of both US and Japanese Girl Scouts. Actual Girl Scouts were selected to be the models of the statue. In 2013, we discovered two ladies who did the model, and we established this project for inviting Libby to Japan for reunion with Hiroko, both who were the statue models. In November 2014, Ms. Libby Watson reunited with Ms. Hiroko Tanaka and they made a "Reunion Hand Shake."
